‘Man shall not live by bread alone" - Jesus

God is so good. All the time.

I was doing some research on Isaiah 66:2 in the NIV

“These are the ones I look on with favor:
    those who are humble and contrite in spirit,
    and who tremble at my word.

Something just didn’t seem right with me. Let me explain;

I always had a picture in my head of what it meant to be humble toward God and that was of me bowing down at the throne of some unreachable King and the only reason I did this was to do what was asked to get what I wanted or needed. When I read this verse, that’s how I understood it. That in order for God to notice me, I had to humble myself before Him. But then I remembered something…

It’s Gods goodness that causes me to change, its Jesus’ righteousness and what Jesus did that causes God the Father to notice me. Its not my actions. So I delved deeper.

When I ‘delve deeper’, the first thing I do is whip out my concordance. To use the concordance I have (Strong’s exhaustive concordance of the bible) you need to use the King James bible.

So this is what King James Version of Isaiah 66:7 looks like with the Hebrew meanings in brackets;  "but on this one will I look; on him who is poor (depressed, down, humble) and of a contrite (maimed or dejected) spirit and who trembles at My word."

Wow. This now translates so much differently to me.

After I read this, it reminded me of the day of my Salvation. The Holy Spirit came to me when I was just like it describes in the (N)KJV. He noticed my condition as it says in this first part "but on this one will I look;". Then in His goodness of meeting me, I then surrender to Him believing in what Jesus did for me.

The realisation of this has really made me take a look at the people around me. Now I live in Australia. We are a fairly well off country when it comes to wealth. But when it comes to people who suffer from mental illness of some sort the stats are staggering.

What I am getting at is this; lets not exclude this great country of Australia and the 22 million people in it because we are not ‘poor’. Just because people have money, doesn’t mean that they are satisfied or not destitute (contrite) in spirit. People need more than money to live, more than bread to survive. We all need Jesus; He died for the entire world. Its His love and actions for us that we need to focus on.

So please, when you see someone who has ‘everything’, don’t think they wouldn’t give everything in exchange for Jesus.

“Build their faith”

I learnt an amazing lesson the other week about how God likes to build people’s faith. Believers or not. The Holy Spirit has been keeping me busy over the past 4 months (hence the low number of blogs), but it’s been amazing learning just how God loves to see the gospel preached. Jesus said     “I told you (who I am), and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me.  If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; ” Jesus also said “ If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38  but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.” (John 10:25, 37-38).  Jesus loved to back up what He said with works. This is your moment.

 God has always shown me a picture (it is a picture to illustrate only) of Him in heaven before I was born and he is getting me off the shelf to put me on earth.
